3 GOOD REASONS TO CONSULT A PSYCHOLOGIST
Many have grown up with the idea that our inner experiences should be shoved under the carpet, hidden and kept quiet.
Maybe they were right.
Still today. for many, to seek professional help is something to keep secret, a private shame not to be mentioned outside the boundaries of one's family 'who knows'. It is not strange that for many, to see a psychologist is like an insult: : ‘... and go to a good one!’. Others that go to their general physician to speak of their difficult thoughts and feelings, the only thing is that from good and up to date doctors, they will probably receive a drug treatment or physiotherapy, instead of obtaining professional help among their choices for treatment.
There are, nonetheless, at least three good reasons to seek a psychologist.
Take care of ourselves
While some people would think that you seek professional help only when we have 'serious issues', the reality is that the help of a psychologist can make a very good life fantastic.
Less and less people today feel the shame of seeking a cure from a psychologist and living a life merely in the absence of mental health disorders. In the same way in which we go to the gym or we train to increase our health, to feel better physically as well as to feel better with our self-esteem, or, we take care of ourselves going to an aesthetician, or, again, we choose to eat healthy non-processed foods, so we can take care of our life experience, its quality, our thoughts, emotions, skills and habits, that will compound and reflect upon the sum of our social relations.
We truly want to change
Many successful people seek a psychologist for counsel, or to be followed in interventions that will help them reach their own life's objectives.
One may think of Federica Pellegrini, athlete and Olympic gold medallist, that has conquered crushing anxiety which made it impossible for her to partake in competitions thanks to the interventions of a psychologist. But many other very successful people with very human suffering may come to mind, for example Alessandro Gassman, J. K. Rowling and Gianluigi Buffon; people who felt, in the course of their lives, to require the serious and professional help of a psychologist. Yalom, psychotherapist and author, reminds us that once the obstacles that impede the life of people are removed, they naturally thrive.
We truly want to improve
At the center of this great process of transformation, that is our life, we can find ourselves.
Talking we realize what we think, what we want and that we are not alone.
We could discover that we love that weekly time slot dedicated only to ourselves, to our needs and the free expression of our emotions. We could even start accepting more who we are and who we were, so we can forgive ourselves and truly let be and let go. At every step of this journey the psychologist will help you, inform you, show you and empower you to want and obtain all that can possibly be achieved from ourselves, our full potential, and our life.
